9/27/2009 – Lech Walesa and Hanseatic Home

Before we got off the ship today, Lech Walesa, the former President of Poland, spent over an hour with us talking a little about the Soviet days, and more about the future.  I always find it very interesting to hear the European view of world issues, they are often very different from ours and always force me to question assumptions I take for granted…

Then we were off to Lubeck, Germany that was the home of the Hanseatic League.  We have been seeing Hanseatic cities throughout our tour of the Baltic and they are starting to blend together.  Lubeck did not suffer extensive damage in WWII as it was only bombed once and then mostly in the area surrounding the old city.
